How does VITAL work?

First:
Using the research from the past several years, expert experience, and taking into account the specific needs and charisms of the community, a diocese works with Cultivation Ministries to develop a series of VITAL criteria that represents what a healthy, vibrant, disciple-making youth ministry looks like in that diocese.

Second:
Parishes participating in the process sign a covenant to participate fully in the process and agree with the accountability structure. Parishes then complete a self-assessment to determine their strengths and areas of growth.

Third:
Youth ministry coordinators meet for a special training session on their role, skills on how to minister best to their community, developing strategies to grow parish investment in youth, and practical plans on recruiting team of adults to work with the youth.

Parishes receive:

application-based training for their entire youth ministry team

relevant online consulting, personalized on site coaching

accountability in achieving a series of significant ministry milestones

Dioceses benefit by:

having a program customized to the specific needs and charism of its community

consistantly gathering youth ministers and youth workers to build networks and accountability

having quality ministry formation at an affordable rate

developing model youth ministry programs that can mentor new youth ministries

Fourth:
Cultivation Ministries working with parishes, develops a customized growth plan for each community and helps them develop a practical schedule for reaching milestones.

Fifth:
Parishes engage in weekly on-line consulting to address specific needs and share with other parishes of the diocese on their progress.

Sixth:
On-site observers share with the youth ministry and Cultivation Ministries how the parish youth ministry is doing and areas of progress and growth.

Seventh:
The entire youth ministry team engages in quarterly training sessions that cover practical ways to grow a disciple-making youth ministry. These training sessions will also dramatically assist those who are seeking Certification as a Lay Ecclesial Minister.

Lastly:
At the end of two years, the diocese, along with Cultivation Ministries, will evaluate each parish on their status as a VITAL Youth Ministry!
