Using Cultivation imagery, we can identify four stages in building a disciple-making ministry.

First, we focus on “Preparing the Soil” by building a spiritually contagious ministry team that shares a clear vision for growing teen disciples.

Secondly, we concentrate on “Sowing” or evangelizing. We learn how to effectively share the gospel with teens both relationally and programmatically.

We found the Cultivation Strategy Process to have incredible spiritual depth and strong practical youth ministry technique. With nineteen of our eighty-nine parishes involved in this process, we are positive that this is one of the best things we have ever done to promote healthy and effective youth ministry.

Thirdly, we build relationships, programs, activities and events that foster spiritual growth and Christian maturity in teens. This stage of “Growing” is devoted to securely rooting, firmly establishing, and building up the believer in their faith (Col. 2:7).

Finally, a youth ministry becomes complete when young people begin bearing spiritual fruit and personally embracing the mission of Jesus and the Church. “Reaping” involves training, equipping, and sending forth teen disciples. This is the "give it away" phase.
